Dink*

No Client (just for fun)

Description: Dink* is a single play game. The interface is simple and tactile. You pick up the dink ball with your finger and throw it at the bricks surrounding the board. Every time a brick is hit, it changes color. The goal is to hit as many bricks as possible. Like the 8 bit games of old, we discovered a surprising amount of strategy and technique lurking under the simple premise, learning several hours can pass by in a flash playing a 30 second game.

Role: I took care of the brand, creative, and copywriting. In addition, I collaborated on experience and product in a team of three.

IMO Social Media Player

Startup: IMO Entertainment (I'm a founder)

Description: IMO is a social media player for premium content, available inside Facebook, Myspace, and on mobile devices. It was the consumer-facing platform for IMO Entertainment, a media startup led by the former chairman and CEO of Sony Music. We wanted to reinvent the process for consumption and sharing of media content using social interactions and a virtual currency. The player had premium content across movies, music videos, music, radio, and games. We would reward users for encouraged behaviors such as inviting new users and sharing digital content. Users could then use their virtual currency to purchase content. The entire platform was customizable and co-branded for a variety of media clients.

Role: Co-founder and EVP of Creative & UX at IMO. Hands-on leader for brand, creative, and experience. Shared product vision and management of a 15-person technical and design team.

IMO Avatars & FriendBar

Startup: IMO Entertainment (I'm a founder)

Description: The key social element of the IMO platform was the Friend Bar. Lying on the bottom of the player, it is oh so clever behind the scenes to deliver just the social info you want when you need it. It knows which friends to show, whether they're on or offline, their current status (e.g. Listening to "Coldplay"), and lots more. It's also built to be addictive, entertaining, and gamelike, to promote friends. Everyone can create a custom avatar and enact real-time, highly interactive pranks on friends (we called them pwns), ranging from nice interactions like sending flowers, to encasing someone in ice and having them slowly thaw out. The virtual goods marketplace for these items was tied into the larger virtual currency model.

We designed the friend bar technology to broadcast interactions to connected nodes of the social graph. This means that as a user updated their avatar or pwned another user, all connected friends would see the interaction in realtime.

Role: Co-founder and EVP of Creative & UX at IMO. Hands-on leader for brand, creative, and experience. Shared product vision and management of a 15-person technical and design team.

Miss Social

Clients: Playboy and Facebook

Description: Taking talent to another level, Playboy worked with Facebook to find the Most Social person online through a monthly contest where contestants' friends have the voting power. Votes were augmented by algorithms involving stickiness drivers such as number of fans, posts, votes, and media. Every month a new Miss Social was crowned, with rewards like private parties at the Playboy Mansion, photo shoots, marketing, even becoming a character in a video game.

Role: Co-led strategy, hands-on creative and experience lead.

Art+Culture

Client: Art+Culture

Project: SXSW Best in Show and internet darling in the first dot com era, the Art+Culture website is a place focused on art, specifically finding and forging the diverse ways in which the arts speak to each other. While maintaining the spirit of the old award-winning site, we reinvigorated the original scheme to create an emergent social network of members, artists, and media, with the web as a content playground.

Role: Strategy co-lead, experience lead, design co-lead. Co-managed a project team of 9.

Punee

Startup: Moovee (I'm a founder)

Description: Moovee is a quick social video app for the phone. We were originally going to launch in Asia with a toy manufacturer, so we created a separate Asian brand, Punee. This brand was character-driven, with a set of Punee Monsters, who are in talks to star in their own animated series.

Role: Brand, creative lead. Collaborated on character illustrations with one other designer. Worked with Japanese business development team, toy companies, and apparel companies, to develop concept for Japanese market.
