Moovee

Stage: 0-1 and beyond
What: Mobile video social network

Role: Co-founder, Creative & Product Design Lead
Responsibilities: Hands-on brand, product design, and product marketing. Shared responsibility for strategy & product, including mapping algorithms, popularity algorithms, and live video filters.

Moovee is a short-form video social network app (each video is 10 seconds or less). Its core is an engaging, continuous play UX that feels expansive even on a phone’s small screen, allowing users to swipe quickly or slowly to consume content. Launching before Instagram for video, Moovee focused on quick video capturing, sharing, and discovery, connecting users across the globe with friends and new acquaintances. The video clips stitch together to form endless channels around users, tags, and locations.

Opportunity

We built and launched Moovee with a team of four on a modest budget. It was featured globally in the App Store at launch, spurring early adoption and reaching an international user base. At the time, Moovee’s main competitor was Vine :)

Flow

We centered Moovee’s interface on a continuous player with a flowing UX to allow the user to control their experience. Within this, content discovery exists in layers which are clear and easy to navigate within the mobile app.

Beyond the app

While Moovee was native mobile at its core, the design also supported a desktop version and embedding across other social networks.

Growth

We used visualizations and tools to evaluate how best to help the network grow and foster specific behaviors and connections.

Process

Moovee’s team was all in one office, with lots of big walls at our disposal. This made large-scale discussions around design and planning tangible and fast, ensuring we were all moving in the same direction, and providing a deep coherence to the overall app experience.
